ROUND TOP PREPARING FOR 168TH FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION

Officials in Round Top are preparing for the oldest continuing celebration of the Fourth of July, west of the Mississippi River.

Wednesday, July 4th, Round Top will be celebrating our nation’as independence for the 168th time.

The celebration began in 1851 and continues to this day.

This year's celebration begins at 10:00 A.M. on the Town Square with addresses from local dignitaries. After the performance of the Star Spangled Banner, Round Top's Civil War era cannon will be fired to signal the beginning of the large colorful parade.

Immediately following the parade, the Round Top Rifle Assn., who sponsors the event, will be serving a BBQ brisket, pork and sausage meal at the Rifle Assn. hall.

Entertainment will be provided by the Round Top Brass Band, the accordion jam session and special guest vocalists Cool Freddie and the Gang.

The Biergarten will open all day serving ice cold refreshments.
