SALEM VFD BREAKS GROUND FOR NEW BUILDING

Members of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department and their supporters broke ground this (Wednesday) afternoon for a new building next to their current fire station. The new metal building will have bays for three fire trucks.  Their current fire station, built in 1983, was designed for 4 trucks, but houses 5 at this time.  The new building will house the fire trucks and allow the office area to be expanded in the current fire station.

The Salem Volunteer Fire Department is located just off Highway 36 south on Salem Road.  That location is actually inside the city limits of Brenham, but was chosen to allow volunteers that work in town, to arrive quickly at the station.  The new building is funded totally by donations and fundraisers.  Salem’s annual fundraiser is coming up Sunday, April 2nd.  The Chicken Fried Steak dinner and auction will be held at Brenham’s Fireman’s Training Center from 11:00 to 1:00.  Tickets can be purchased from Salem Volunteer Fire Department members.

Members of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, their supporters, and the Washington County Blue Blazers break ground for the new building.

  1. Why not build it to hold all 5 trucks, then all the trucks would be in one building.

    1. Question should be is WHY are they not building on the property that was Donated to them??
Maybe the word is that they sold it?

      1. The land was not donated to the fire dept they bought this land. The cost to develop and build was more than they could afford. So the land was sold. Donations go only so far, they are doing the best they can with what they have.

        1. Maybe our local county government should help more and or help with creating a county wide ESD…this would solve the donations only go so far issue!…I understand nobody wants more taxes but as I see it that’s the only solution…
