SALES TAX REBATES UP AGAIN FOR BRENHAM, BURTON AND WASHINGTON COUNTY

  

Brenham, Burton and Washington County are all having healthy increases in their sales tax rebates this month.

The State Comptroller’s Office shows the city of Brenham is receiving $564,433 in sales tax rebates from the month of January.  That’s 5.8 percent increase over this time last year.   The city had an increase of 1.1 percent from the previous month.

Burton also had a good increase in rebates.  The city had a 10 percent increase over last year at this time by receiving $3406 in rebates.  That is a 10.5 percent increase over last year and a 21 percent increase over the last reporting period.

Washington County is also getting more money from the Comptroller’s office this month.  The county received $240,792 in sales tax rebates for the month of January, a 7.6 percent increase from this time last year.  The county had a 5.4 percent increase from the month of December.

Comptroller Susan Combs reported this week that state sales tax revenues in January totaled $2.3 billion.  That, she says is an 8.3 percent increase from January of last year.

Combs said the increases were across all the major sectors of the Texas economy.  She went on to say this monthly report showed  continued expansion in both consumer and business spending, and brings the growth in fiscal year to date collections to 4.8 percent compared with the previous year. 

In all the Comptroller’s office sent $802 million to communities in the last month.  Combs says this represents  46 consecutive months that sales tax revenues have increase for the state.
