SALT GRASS TRAIL RIDERS SADDLE UP TODAY

The official Salt Grass Trail Ride kicks off Saturday and runs all week through the 27th. The Salt Grass Trail Ride is the original and oldest trail ride – beginning in 1952 – that promotes the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The  ride will kick off Saturday leaving Wittenburg’s Pasture and travel 5.6 miles and circle back to Wittenburg’s Pasture.

Sunday, the ride will travel 12.6 miles from Wittenburg’s Pasture to the Austin County Fairgrounds. Monday, they’ll travel 17 miles ending at the Waller County Fairgrounds. Tuesday, 17.3 miles to Miller Farms Pasture. Wednesday, 15.6 miles to Katy Park. Thursday, 12 miles to Houston Farm and Ranch Club. Friday, a final 17.8 miles ending at Memorial Park in Houston.

The Public Relations and Special Events Chairman for the Salt Grass Trail Ride, Conni Meyer says that the ride started off as a joke amongst the men that started it way back when but has since then transformed into something special.

According to the Salt Grass Trail Ride website, the purpose of the ride is to “Encourage the love of horses, riding, and good fellowship, and to perpetuate the memory off the original riders of the Salt Grass Trail”.
