Blinn was able to outhit San Jacinto but the Buccaneers were held without a run in a 1-0 San Jacinto victory to open the doubleheader.

Johnny Rizer pitched well enough to get a win in most games as he went 5 2-3 innings and gave up two hits and one earned run while striking out nine in the loss. Zach Smith came on to get the final four outs and allowed one hit and struck out two without giving up a run.

Four singles hit by Anthony Jones, Colton Parrish, Rizer and Trent Murphy was all that Blinn could get.

San Jacinto scored its lone run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead that would hold up until the final pitch. Blinn didn’t have many chances to score but left six on base in seven innings.

Blinn got off to a rough start when San Jacinto scored five runs in the first and the Buccaneers couldn’t ever regain the momentum in a 10-3 loss to suffer a sweep in the doubleheader.

Blinn did hit the ball better in the second game as Jones, Parrish and Angel De La Fuente each hit two singles in the loss.

San Jacinto scored five runs in the opening inning but the Buccaneers cut into the lead in the fourth inning. Jones started the fourth with a single and then came in to score on a check-swing single by Sam McElreath to get within 5-1. Rizer brought in the second run on an RBI ground out to get within 5-2. San Jacinto did pad its lead with two runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 9-2 lead.

Blinn showed some signs of life in the seventh when Marshall Skinner was hit by a pitch to begin the inning and then came in to score on a sacrifice fly hit by Jay Anderson to get within 9-3. That would be the final run scored by the Buccaneers as San Jacinto added an additional run in the ninth for a 10-3 victory.

Blinn will close the season series at San Jacinto on Friday, April 28 with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
