SCARECROW ENTRIES SOUGHT FOR BRENHAM’S EXTRAVAGANZA
Only one week remains to enter Downtown Brenham’s “Scarecrow Extravaganza” contest.
The annual tradition of decorating downtown Brenham with colorful scarecrows is in its 13th year, but is in danger of being cancelled due to low participation. Jennifer Eckermann, Main Street Director for the City of Brenham, says only a few entries have been received so far. The deadline for entries is Monday, October 3rd, so Eckermann says there is still plenty of time to register online at downtownbrenham.com/scarecrows. Scarecrows would need to be placed downtown by Saturday, October 8th.
Downtown Brenham businesses have put up $1150 in cash prizes for the “Scarecrow Extravaganza”. Winners are decided by popular voting and by judges. The overall winner would receive $250 cash provided by radio stations KWHI 1280 and KTEX 106.1. Each of the category winners would receive $150 cash. They include:
Silliest - sponsored by: Dona Lynn’s Unique Gifts
Best School Spirit - sponsored by: Herman Furniture
Most Creative - sponsored by: Fancy That!
Cutest - sponsored by: Branded Boutique
Most Educational - sponsored by: Tres Chic Boutique
Fanciest - sponsored by: Must Be Heaven
Eckermann say individuals, businesses, clubs and organizations and school classrooms are invited to enter the “Scarecrow Extravaganza” by next Monday, October 3rd, in order to keep this downtown Brenham tradition alive. Online registration is free, and can be found at downtownbrenham.com/scarecrows.
