Twenty scarecrows are displayed throughout downtown as part of Main Street Brenham’s “12th Annual Scarecrow Extravaganza”.   Businesses, school classrooms, clubs and individuals have decorated scarecrows in hopes of winning a portion of $1150 in cash prizes.  The public is invited to visit downtown between now and October 18th to vote for their favorite scarecrows.  Ballots are available at any of the Scarecrow Extravaganza sponsors including Fancy That…sponsoring the prize for the Fanciest scarecrow;  Must Be Heaven… sponsoring the Most Creative scarecrow;  Branded Boutique….sponsoring the Cutest scarecrow;  Day Star Christian Bookstore…sponsoring the Most Educational entry;  Bar B Boutique….providing the prize for the scarecrow with the Best School Spirit; Dona Lynn’s Unique Gifts….sponsoring the Silliest scarecrow;  and KTEX 106 and KWHI 1280…providing the $250 cash prize for the Best Overall scarecrow.  The winner of each category will receive a $150 cash prize.

A few of this year’s entries include “Sponge Bob Scarepants” designed by Kristie Wolf’s class at Krause Elementary, “Officer Crime Stopper” created by the Washington County Boys and Girls Club, and Heavenly Dreams of Blue Bell designed by St. Paul’s Christian Day School.

Traci Pyle, chairman of the Main Street Brenham Promotions Committee, says visiting downtown Brenham this fall to vote for your favorite scarecrows is a great family outing.  Pyle says the winning scarecrows will be announced by Main Street Brenham during the week of October 19th after all of the ballots are tabulated.
