The candidates for State Representative District 13 have announced the amount of political contributions received during their campaigns, and first-time candidate Republican Leighton Schubert came out on top, raising more than his opponents combined.

Schubert’s total contributions total $47,450, while former Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski raised $24,655.63, former Fayette County Judge candidate Cecil Webster raised $19,083.32, and former Texas Railroad Commission candidate raised Becky Berger raised $200.

Schubert was surprised and humbled by the results from the first round of campaign finance reports. He commented, “I am extremely humbled by the support I have gotten from my fellow citizens. I think the fact that I was born in Brenham, raised in Snook, live in Caldwell, and have family in 4 of the 7 counties of District 13 has helped tremendously in raising support. I was a little surprised that as a first-time candidate I could outraise long-time politicians like my opponents. I think it shows that folks want a fresh, conservative voice in the Texas Legislature.”

Of Schubert’s donations, 65% originated from residents of District 13, where he spent less money than he raised.
