SCHUBERT REQUESTS “NO TOLL FOR 249 EXTENSION”

State Representative Leighton Schubert

District-13 State Representative Leighton Schubert is urging the Texas Transportation Commission to designate the State Highway 249 extension a non-toll project.

Schubert represents Grimes County in the Texas House of Representatives.

The Texas Department of Transportation is currently working to extend SH-249 from FM 1774 to SH-105 in Grimes County, but has not yet made a final decision about whether it will be a toll road

Schubert says , “The taxpayers of Texas expect us to ease their financial burden, not add to it,"

Schubert sent a letter to Commission Chairman Tryon Lewis, requesting the agency designate it as a non-toll project.

During the 2015 legislative session Governor Greg Abbott designated transportation funding as an emergency item and the Legislature passed measures which significantly boosted TxDOT's funding.

Schubert says, “adding tolls to this already controversial project would add insult to injury."
