During the 2015 legislative session, border security was a top priority, providing $800-million in additional funding for border security and for the hiring of an additional 250 state troopers to patrol the Texas border.

In addition to touring the border with DPS Director Steve McCraw, Schubert was briefed by DPS Regional Commander Jose Rodriguez at the DPS operations center in Weslaco.

Schubert says "Securing the Texas border is one of my top priorities as a state elected official and I take that responsibility very seriously. We have taken strong measures in the legislature to protect the border and I am pleased to see how rapidly they are being implemented,"

Schubert cited House Bill 11 which has given the Department of Public Safety the authority to expedite the hiring of military veterans who have been honorably discharged and want to become state troopers.

"Whether we are talking about drug trafficking or human trafficking, I will stop at nothing to keep Texans safe from harm and will continue to work diligently to secure our border," said Representative Schubert.
