The Sealy Police Department issued a press release in the afternoon hours of Wednesday stating that the severe weather of Tuesday evening was being labeled a “microburst” according to Jeff Evans of the National Weather Service.

A microburst is described as “a wall of wind that is pushed down towards the earth at high speeds.” They are considered highly rare, “in the fact that the winds exceed 80-100 mph,” and as seen in the case of Sealy, can bring severe rain and golf-ball size hail.

Reports of the damage include overturned 18-wheelers, homes receiving major damage, and entire streets of power poles laying in the streets.

Sealy has had residents without power, with some who may not have service restored until Friday.

Despite the catastrophic weather and damages, there were only minor damages, and no deaths reported.
