SENATOR KOLKHORST COMMENTS ON OFFICER SHOOTING

Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst took to Facebook Sunday to express her condolences to the family of the San Antonio police officer who was shot in the line of duty earlier that day.

Kolkhorst said that “cowardly attacks against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated in Texas”. She went on to encourage people to join her in keeping the officer’s family and the entire San Antonio community in their prayers.

Police say 50-year-old Benjamin Marconi was fatally shot while writing a ticket outside of police headquarters in San Antonio. According to authorities, Marconi had pulled over a vehicle and was writing a ticket in his car when a vehicle pulled up behind him. The driver walked up to the driver’s side window and opened fire.

Marconi, a 20 year veteran of the force, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police Chief William MacManus has said the suspect remains unknown and has not been apprehended.

  1. I think it is time to send a strong a very clear message to the cowards who commit crimes like this, if you choose to ambush a police officer or attack a first responder using deadly means, the sentence choice should be life in prison without chance of parole, or the death penalty. It is time for the public to send a strong message!

I appreciate Senator Kolkhorst taking a strong stand on this and I would encourage her to consider making the state laws that protect our first responders even stronger than they are today!

    1. Killing a police officer is already Capital Murder. The only two punishment options for Capital Murder are death penalty and life without parole.

      1. Actually, my comment did not deal with killing a police officer, it concerned attacking or ambushing a first responder using deadly means. It is time our first responders have the maximum protection the law allows.
