SEVEN NEW CASA FOR KIDS ADVOCATES SWORN IN

  

 Seven new volunteers for the CASA for KIDS became special advocates to help abused, neglected and abandoned children were sworn in at the Washington County Courthouse.

Judge Matthew Reue swore in the new volunteers Danny Kline, Bren Hardt, Jacqui Babb, Paula Fuchs, Kim Fine, Jana Dehmer, and Cheryl Gaskamp.

Jo Reaves, program director for CASA for KIDS, says the volunteers come from all walks of life, such as students, retirees, and people who work full and part time.

Reaves says that there are always need for more volunteers because the need for trained advocates in the community continues to grow. In 2014, CASA for KIDS served 200 children.

Candidates must be 21 years old and pass a background check, then complete a free training designed to teach about how to deal with child abuse and neglect, and learn about advocacy and appropriate services for children in need, and be passionate about helping kids.

The next informational session will be June 27, with classes on one Saturday from 9:00am and 3:00 pm followed by Tuesday and Thursday evenings June 30, July, 2, 7, 9, and 14th, from 5:45 to 8:45 pm.

CASA will also be hosting a free Kids Day Saturday, April 18th from 10am to 2pm, behind their offices located at 2309 S. Day in Brenham. Activities will include a bounce house, face painting, bake sale, games, plus fee hot dogs and ice cream.
