SHERIFF HANAK WARNS OF ANOTHER PHONE SCAM
Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak is warning citizens about yet another phone scam.
Sheriff Hanak says some people have fallen for a con where they’re told they’ve won the Publishers’ Clearinghouse Sweepstakes and in order to get their winnings, they must purchase what’s called a Green Dot money card.
In turn they must give the number of that card to the caller who claims they’ll then get their winnings.
The calls are coming from an 876 area code.
Hanak once again reminds the public this is a scam and not to fall for it.
He also adds that the calls are coming from throw-away phones that are virtually impossible to track down.
