SHERIFF’S DEPUTY RECEIVES HIGH PRAISE VIA ‘FACEBOOK’

A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy is receiving high praise on Facebook from the husband of a woman he assisted Monday afternoon.

Christopher Schiffner, a deployed US Navy veteran, posted a message on Facebook praising a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy for his assistance after his wife’s van struck a steel beam on Highway 290 blowing out both driver’s side tires and bending her rims.

That deputy is Daniel Gaskamp.

According to Schiffner’s post, his wife Tonya and their three young sons were headed back to Virginia, when her van hit the beam.  He says Gaskamp arrived at the scene and “…went above and beyond anything I could ask for from anyone... he not only offered his help, but he brought back McDonalds for them to eat and even offered to bring his wife back to help…so that my wife wouldn't have to deal with my 3 crazies and the dog alone.”

Schiffner went on to post, “…there is so much negative in the media right now regarding Police officers. So thank you, and thank you specifically to the officer who helped my wife yesterday when i was unable to be there.”

Schiffner’s post has received nearly 2000 likes so far.

This is Schiffner's post in its entirety:

Hello, I'm a deployed Husband and father of 3 little boys who were traveling from Austin to Houston yesterday afternoon on 290 west of 36, when my wife hit a steel beam in the road, blowing out both drivers side tires and bending atleast one rim. One of your officers came up on them after she had pulled off the road and offered his assistance. My wife has been in Texas with family since i left in December, she had our 3 boys and the dog, along with a loaded down van that was enroute back to Virginia. Your officer, whom my wife didn't catch his name went above and beyond anything i could ask for from anyone... he not only offered his help, but he brought back McDonalds for them to eat and even offered to bring his wife back to help as he was getting off work, so that my wife wouldn't have to deal with my 3 crazies and the dog alone. I have yet to locate the specific officer, though i have reached out on Social media so i could personally thank him for his assistance. but i wanted to shout out to your department and your officers, as there is so much negative in the media right now regarding Police officers. So thank you, and thank you specifically to the officer who helped my wife yesterday when i was unable to be there.

  1. I remember when I first came to Brenham in the late 80’s and he was doing the “Officer Friendly” program. He has always been about his community and anyone visiting first.

  2. Officer Gaskamp visits the Burton schools at least once a week and helps with car duty!!! At the end is school, he did an awesome presentation of social media awareness. The kids love him and so do the parents and staff of Burton ISD. So glad he is receiving this big pat on the back!!

  3. No surprise. Deputy Gaskamp has been inWashington county law enforcement for many years, in many different roles. He has always dealt with the public in a professional, respectful manner.
Even when I was a kid. .. no harassment.

  11. Anyone who has ever had any dealings with Daniel Gaskamp, knows what a truly kind and helpful human being he is. He always has a smile on his face, and cheerfully takes on any task. He cooks breakfast for the entire sheriff’s office, at least once a month, not because it’s his job, but because he likes to. His love of service is matched only by his generosity and sincerity. He would offer a helping hand to anyone who might need it. He’s the real deal and our entire community is lucky to have him and his lovely family. Job well done, Deputy Dan!

He does a fantastic job checking on the businesses, schools, and just people in the Burton area and we are so grateful. 15. Thank you for deciding to post this article on your website! This is my Father and I am so very proud of him. Wish we had more stories like this!!!

  16. Being a former police officer, I know the feeling of helping someone in need. The praise the deputy received will probably make his day.

    1. Great job from a great person! I’m sick of all the negative news about police! Yeah there are some bad ones just like in every profession. But the media focuses on all the negatives and are very misleading at times. They have helped way more people than hurt. Again some of them are crooked but that is in every group of people or jobs! My Dad was a policeman for many years! He worked with Mr. Gaskamp and this is not surprising at all! Great guy!!
