SHERIFFS OFFICE INVESTIGATING CHAPPELL HILL ROBBERY

Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak says the ‘sensitive investigation’ continues into a post midnight robbery of the Chappell Hill Exxon on 290 East two weeks ago.

Sheriff Hanak said today (Monday) that when the clerk closed the store at midnight on Sunday October 20th, an armed African-American man, who had been hiding in the supply room, suddenly came out and demanded money and any other valuables available.

The man the put duct tape over the clerk’s mouth,  tied his hand, ripped out the security camera, and took out all recording devices.  Then two other men came in and stole some coins, the clerk’s cell phone and the store keys.

The suspects fled the store on highway 290 but the clerk could not say what direction.

The Sheriff said the clerk was so terrified about the robbery that he waited for two hours to be sure the suspects had left.  He then walked over to the owner’s house and told him what happened.  The owner then cut the tape binding the clerk’s hands.

Sherriff Hanak describes this investigation as ‘sensitive’ and they are still looking for these suspects.  He did not want to endanger capturing the suspects.
