SMALL BUSINESSES LEARN HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

  

A large group of small business owners from Washington, Lee and Burleson Counties learned about the possibilities and concerns of their businesses at today’s (Wednesday) Governor’s Forum on Small Business at the Fireman’s Training Center.

Randy Wiedemann of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce served as Master of Ceremony. He said they business owners learned all about the health of the local economy with the bio-corridor along with oil and gas industry garnering additional strength to the area.

Rick Rigsby, an evangelical minister and iinspirational speaker told the forum how to ‘make it happen.’

 

The keynote speaker was Dr. Rick Rigsby, now an ordained minister who has once been an inspiration coach for the Texas A&M Aggies.  His topic was ‘Making It Happen’ and that the best way to make it happen is to be less concerned about the ‘bottom line’ and to pay more attention to the top line which is community service.

 

Rigsby recounted the lessons he learned from his father, a third grade drop out who was his primary mentor in life.  Rigsby said that the primary  problem in business and today’s society in general was that we have become more concern about looking good and feeling good than making an impact.

The forum concluded with the awards for the top small businesses in Washington, Lee and Burleson Counties.

In Washington County the top small business with employees of less than 25 was Re-Max and the business with more workers was the Brenham National Bank.

The Brenham National Bank won the Business of the Year Awrd for the 25 plus employee category.

The Giddings Area Chamber of Commerce’s top business was Fischer and Langham Custom Builders.

The top businesses in Burleson County were the law firm of Burns and Reyes and The Amherst House.

State Senator Glen Hegar presented the awards.
