SMALL TORNADO TOUCHES DOWN IN GIDDINGS

A small tornado touched down in Lee County near Giddings this afternoon around 12:30pm, moving from south to north around County Road 226.

Spence Schneider, from the Office of Emergency Management in Giddings, says that the tornado moved into a commercial area, with the most damage occurring at the Ramada Inn, where the building sustained some roof damage.

One person at the Ramada Inn was injured in an upstairs room when the roof and some flying debris caused minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Other businesses sustained minimal damage. There were some minor damages to some barns in the area.

The tornado then moved down Highway 290 into an open field and went back up into the clouds.

There were no other injuries reported.
