SMART STUDENTS LEARN LESSONS THROUGH PIES
Youth in the Faith Mission SMART Program recently got to enjoy a day at the Royers Round Top Café restaurant.
SMART represents Science, Math, Art, Reading and Technology and this summer officials say they have found a fun way to incorporate those skills.
During the field trip the student were able to help bake the famous Royers Round Top Cafe Pies. This lesson tied into a number of SMART Program features.
They learned that when cooking with eggs, you cannot add hot liquid because that will cause the eggs to scramble "And who wants scrambled eggs in their pie" Rev. Randy Wells stated. This lesson tied into science .
They learned the importance of paying attention to measurements when dealing with math. The students learned that you eat with your eyes first so you have to make the food look presentable, that's where the art comes in.
When reading, you have to know exactly what it is that needs to go into the pie. Lastly the students learned about the POS (Point of Sale) system which includes technology. .
Officials say following the program, the students were able to stand up and talk about what they learned. The Royers say they were impressed and very pleased with the SMART students. T
