SMITH TAKES TWO GOLDS AT STATE; 400 FREE RELAY TEAM 5TH

Brenham Cubs junior swimmer Hudson Smith has won two more gold medasl at the UIL State Meet.

Smith took first in the 200 Individual Medley, Saturday morning, in a time of 1:49.40.  Smith finished over five seconds ahead of his closest competitor.  Smith finished second in the event last year.

Smith then defended his 2015 State Championship in the 100 Breaststroke with a new state record time of :55.97.

The Cubs then closed out the meet in the 400 Freestyle relay. The team of Smith, Mac Naylor, Todd Jahns and Jacob Pyle finished fifth in a time of 3:16.06, nearly a half-second faster than their Friday qualifying time.

Despite only competing in three finals, the Cubs finished 13th in the team standings with 78 points.

Austin Vandergrift took the state team title with 189 points.
