SNOOK VOTERS APPROVE DISTRICT TAX MOVE

Snook voters took to the polls on Saturday to vote in favor of the tax ratification on the ballot.

There were 195 people who voted for the move, while 15 people voted against it.

The Snook ISD Board of Trustees says that this change means an additional $300,000 for the district annually, without having to increase taxes. The change allows the district to increase their maintenance and operations tax rate in order to receive a higher amount of state funding.

The current maintenance and operations tax rate is $1.04, and interest and sinking rate is $0.33. In the proposed plan, $0.13 would be transferred from the interest and sinking tax rate to the maintenance tax rate, keeping the overall rate at $1.37.

For every $100 of local taxes, Snook ISD will gain $7 of additional state funding.
