A finalist has been selected for the city administrator’s post in Somerville.

City mayor Ken Tharp Jr., however, is not releasing the name of the candidate pending their background check.

After a half-hour closed door session of the city council, the members approved the selection, pending the background check.

Tharp says if everything checks out, the council will then set a date to meet with the candidate for contract negotiations.

The council interviewed nine candidates to succeed former administrator Marty Mangum, who resigned in April to accept a position in Vernon.

Tharp has stated throughout the process that the council hoped to have a selection by the end of August.
