SOMERVILLE POLICE CHIEF RESIGNS

Somerville’s police chief has resigned effective Friday, October 13th.

Nic Malmstrom, who has served as chief of police for the City of Somerville since 2013, submitted his resignation this past week. City Administrator Ben Griffin says Malmstrom wants to spend more time with his family as they deal with some health issues. The Somerville City Council will discuss the process of hiring a replacement at their meeting Tuesday, October 10th.

Somerville Mayor Ken Tharp praised Malmstrom for the job he has done over the past four years, saying “he has done a great job for the city, working short-handed and helping the city survive through three floods.” The Somerville Police Department consists of a chief and three patrol officers.
