SPECIAL ELECTION SET FOR DISTRICT 13 SEAT
Governor Rick Perry has set a date for the special election to fill the vacant Texas House District 13 seat.
The election to fill the season vacated by Lois Kolkhorst when she was elected State Senator will be Tuesday, January 13.
The seat opened up after Kolkhorst won the Texas Senate special election earlier this month to replace Comptroller-elect Glenn Hegar.
Candidates for the special election must file applications with the office of the Secretary of State no later than Monday, Dec. 29.
A number of people have already expressed their plans to run, including: Former Brenham Marine Daniel McCarthy, Burleson County attorney Leighton Schubert, Schulenburg business woman Becky Berger, Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski and retired Army veteran Cecil Webster of Carmine.
The early voting period begins Monday, Jan. 5th and runs through Friday, Jan. 9th.
The 2015 legislative session begins Jan. 13.
