SPECIAL OLYMPICS TORCH RUN MAKES ITS WAY THROUGH BRENHAM

  

The Gulf Coast leg of the Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run made its way across Brenham this (Thursday) morning.

The group of Law Enforcement Officers annually runs the torch for the Texas Special Olympics to games in Arlington, in an effort to raise awareness for the program. DSCN3068

The runners were treated to dinner last (Wednesday) night and breakfast this morning in Brenham and will move on to Huntsville, then on to Mavericks Stadium at the University of Texas at Arlington, where they will be joined by other groups from around the state.

The University of Texas at Arlington campus is the site of the Special Olympics State Summer Games, which will start on Friday and run through Sunday.DSCN3070

In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1985.  The Torch Run features officers and athletes running the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” to the opening ceremonies.
