SPRING EGG ART WALK

The Brenham Main Street Egg Art Walk is coming back this spring.

Main Street is taking art to the streets of downtown Brenham, and invites young and old, professional and amateur, to participate in the 2014 Spring  Eggs Art Walk.

Margie Young, the Chair of the Main  Street Design Committee, says they are excited to bring back this public art exhibition.  She says this year they are adding a Professional category.

Young says “Spring is a fantastic time of year to display the talent of local artists because there are so many people visiting the county.”

Although the base egg cut out remains the same for each contestant, the artist can inspired local influences, history or the spring season.

All artists who enter will be supplied with a 3.5 foot plywood egg and base.  The basic egg can be altered by the artist, as long as it remains intact .  Objects may be attached to the eggs, but should be attached in such a way that it cannot be easily removed.

Whether simply painted a solid color, or boasting of elaborate and intricate designs, an artist’s creativity and innovation should lead them.  The look of the egg should attract attention because of its beauty, simplicity, creativity or ingenuity.

The eggs will be placed outdoors downtown in an area fully accessible to the public.  Artists should consider the eather and other elements of nature when creating a design.

The artists may sculpt, transform and adorn the egg as he or she wishes.

Young says they will once again be offering cash prizes.

The Grand Prize of $250 is being sponsored by Main Street Brenham, and $125 cash prizes for the Judge’s Award, Most Creative and Most Artistic will be awarded in Professional, Amateur and student, 18 and under categories.

Artists should keep in mind that the audience will be broad based and designs should be appropriate for public display.  A review panel may reject a design that, in its sole discretion, does not adhere to the guidelines.

Main Street is able to offer this opportunity for the community thanks to sponsors Must Be Heaven, fancy that! Bar B Boutique, Dona Lynn’s Unique Gifts, Branded Boutique, Re/Max Advantage, Events by Room Service, Bev Frew and Puddin’ Barnes.

Entries are due by Wednesday March fifth, an are available through the sponsors, schools, the Visitor Center at the Simon Theater or enter online at www.DowntownBrenham.com.
