STATE REP. KOLKHORST HONORED FOR CANCER WORK

District 13 State Rep. Lois Kolkorst has received recognition from the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network for her work to advance the fight against cancer in Texas.

The award was for her leadership in passing reforms for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute and securing funding for the Institute so their work can continue.

Cam Scott of the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Action Network says the Brenham Republican’s efforts makes sure Texas  remains a leader in cancer leadership.

Texas voters approved the creation of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas and authorized a $3 billion investment in the fight against cancer over a ten year period.  All CPRIT funded research is conducted by Texas based scientists, so the agency also has significant impact on the Texas economy, including the creation of over 24,000 new jobs resulting from the activity and investments of CPRIT.
