SUDDENLINK COULD BE MOVING LOCAL OFFICE OUT OF BRENHAM

The local office of Suddenlink Communications could be closing down at year’s end if the Brenham City Council approves an amendment to the city’s cable television franchise.

At Thursday’s City Council meeting, the council will hear from Suddenlink’s Director of Operations Thomas Way, who informed the city that a restructuring means the local operation is now under the management in Bryan/College Station.

Way approached City Manager Terry Roberts in July, about the local office and told Roberts that the office traffic and the current subscriber count in Brenham makes it – according to Way – “nearly impossible, from a business cost perspective, to supports an office here.”

Way told Roberts and Assistant City Manager Ryan Rapelye that the amount of traffic in the local office didn’t warrant the expense of maintaining the office.

Way went on to say that most of the traffic was customers dropping off payments – which he says can be done at the local H.E.B. store, for a transaction fee of $2.

According to Roberts, the amendment to the franchise would mean closing the local office on East Main St., when the current lease runs out in December.

Roberts says Way has assured him that Suddenlink will still maintain the local technical staff that live and work in the Brenham area.  Way also says there will be increased support from the Bryan location.

The Brenham City Council will consider the franchise amendment when they meet Thursday afternoon at 4:00 at City Hall.

  1. If you haven’t tried calling Suddenlink directly, I highly recommend it, though for entertainment purposes only. Bonus fun: see if you can get anyone answering the phone at Suddenlink to admit that they HAVE an office in Brenham.

  2. They don’t care. They added an extra fee this month for mail billing, no notice nothing. Now they want to close local office (cost savings) and then have customers pay another fee if they pay at HEB. City leaders stand by.

  3. This story is very timely for me. We became a resubscriber ON LINE to Suddenlink end of May. I have not yet received a bill that was not 30% above the monthly price quoted and confirmed (specifically – twice) by the on-line person. I walked in a document to the Brenham Office the following morning (May 28) for the local attendant to fax to the correct place to complete the confirmed contract. Suddenlink Phone Customer Service person later said, “Oh it did not get in the next billing because it was sent to the wrong place.” (?)

    IT STILL HASN”T .

There is apparently NO WAY to contact Suddenlink directly by mail on billing issues. I have written the objection/request for correction statement on two billings. I have gone to the website, looked up Suddenlink’s Executives listed with title and sent two letters in consecutive months WHICH HAVE BOTH BEEN RETURNED UNOPENED – NO SUCH PERSON NO SUCH DEPARTMENT AT SUCH ADDRESS.

The entire operation looks just like a Bait-and-Switch operation to me.

Does anyone else in Brenham have such a problem? On line comments seem to indicate
two way communication and desirable results are not really common with them.

As the City of Brenham and Mr Roberts communicate with Mr. Way, maybe Mr. Way
can find a way (pun intended) to get my problem to the right place.

The context of the story DOES appear that Suddenlink is TELLING Brenham how it’s going to be,so one customer IN BRENHAM probably may as well spit on the street this afternoon with similar results.
