Blinn College starting pitcher Blaine Suehs (Caldwell) has been named the 2016 Leroy Dreyer MVP Diamond Award winner.

This is the second year of the award named after former Blinn baseball coach and athletic director Leroy Dreyer, who worked at the College for 36 years and still attends Buccaneer athletic events. Cullen Jozwiak won the inaugural award a year ago.

“I put a big emphasis on academics as well as athletics and it feels great to be honored like this,” Suehs said. “I am humbled by this award and grateful to be a part of Blinn baseball.”

As a transfer from University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Suehs led all Blinn pitchers with 67 strikeouts and finished with a 4-4 record and a 3.58 earned run average in 60 1-3 innings.

“Blaine always gave us a chance to win when he pitched,” said Blinn head coach Harvey McIntyre. “He is just a phenomenal young man and that speaks to his upbringing, his family and who he is as a young man.”

Suehs will pitch at Lamar University next year.

Blinn finished with a 23-31 record in 2016 and just missed out on the Region XIV tournament.
