SUMMER RENOVATIONS PLANNED FOR KRAUSE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Brenham School Board approved a Costruction Manager at Risk for the Krause Elementary School renovations at their noon meeting Monday.  The Crain Group out of Pearland was selected from the 3 bidders on the project. Assistant Superintendent Paul Aschenbeck said that there were no local bids received.  Planned changes to the school over the summer include replacing the air handlers, renovating the bathrooms, and cosmetic changes to the hallways and entryways.  In December of last year, the board approved Project Control as the Construction Manager for the project.

Trustees also approved AAR Inc. for the asbestos abatement at Krause.  Aschenbeck said that mastic under the hallway tiles at the 32 year old school tested positive for asbestos.  The tiles and old mastic will be removed during spring break and the hallways will be left as bare concrete through the end of the school year. AAR Inc. was also approved for the asbestos abatement and demolition at the old Alton Elementary School Campus.

The buildings scheduled for demolition this summer were built in 1954 and are not used by the Early Childhood Learning Center that occupies the campus now.

King Consultants of Lubbock were approved by the board for the asbestos abatement monitoring service for the project. Monitoring of the asbestos removal process is required now by law.

Trustees also approved the contracts for the administrative staff employed by the Brenham District.  Superintendent Walter Jackson thanked all of the administrative staff for their hard work.

  1. That’s good news for our public school to keep the air we breath clean. Does anyone know if BJH is in any conversation to much needed work? The floors, walls, roof and bathrooms all could use some tlc along with a list of other items including air conditioning in the rubber gym. It’s really disappointing that our kids and instructors half to deal with the outdoor activities in 100 degree heat then walk in a gym with no a/c but the fans work great blowing hot air! lol – Just saying…
I think BJH is the second oldest school in the district that hasn’t had any remodelling so can someone stand up make a difference.
