SUMMER TRAVEL SEASON BEGINS

With Memorial Day so begins the summer driving season.

The Texas Department of Transportation says they want you to be prepared for some long trips, in hot weather over the next few months, so your summer vacation will not be interrupted by car trouble or a traffic accident.

Bob Colwell of the Bryan office of TxDot says you need to  be well rested and alert during you summer traveling and they have travel centers across the state that will help you stretch your legs, relax and get to your destination safely.  He also says it is important to make sure you vehicle  is properly maintained and ready for a long hot drive.

TxDot reminds drivers to carefully inspect your car before hitting the road this summer.  Colwell says simple steps such as checking your tire pressure and getting your car tuned up on schedule can reduce tailpipe emissions, improve fuel economy and save money at the pump.  He says proper vehicle maintenance also helps prevent your vehicle from breaking down and leaving you stranded on the side of the road.  Colwell says for more tips on keeping the air clean and saving money on gas, visit the Drive Clean Across Texas website at drivecleanacrosstexas.org.
