SUSPECT IN TROOPER’S KILLING ARRESTED IN WALLER CO.

The suspect in the murder of a Texas DPS trooper is in custody after an extensive and lengthy search ended in rural Waller County.

32-year old Dabrett Black, of Lindale, was captured after he allegedly shot and killed DPS Trooper Damon Allen during a traffic stop on I-45 near Fairfield in Freestone County.

Investigators say Black fired numerous shots at Allen during a traffic stop—but have not released a motive.

The shooting occurred around 4:00 p.m.  Black fled the scnene, leading to a massive man-hunt.

Just before 7:00 p.m., a deputy in Waller County spotted Black's vehicle near FM 1488 and White Chapel between Hempstead and Prairie View.  Shots were fired, but no one was injured.

K9s, a SWAT team, and DPS helicopter were used to search for Black, who was eventually found hiding in a field.  He had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Black has been officially charged with Capital Murder.  He is being held in the Brazos County Jail.  Other charges including Assault of a Public Servant and Evading Arrest.

Bond has been set at $500,000 on the Assault and Evading arrest charges. Bond has not been set on the Capital Murder charge.

According to DPS, he is expected to be arraigned later Friday.

Trooper Damon Allen was 41-years old and from Mexia.  He was a husband and father of three.  He joined the DPS in 2002.
