TABC TO CONDUCT SPRING BREAK “STINGS”

Businesses that sell alcohol to spring breakers across the state are being warned to comply with state laws, or risk getting arrested.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has announced they will be conducting a massive undercover operation over the next two weeks, intended to curtail the sales of alcohol to persons under 21.

Over the next two weeks, the undercover operations will target retailers located along popular travel corridors between major Texas cities and the Gulf Coast.

During the operation, undercover TABC agents will accompany a minor-aged volunteer who will attempt to purchase alcohol. Retailers who sell alcohol to the underage person could face possible action by the TABC.

The stings will take place at establishments which sell alcohol for on-premise consumption such as bars and restaurants, and those which sell alcohol for off-premise consumption such as grocery or convenience stores.

During the 2016 Spring Break undercover operations, TABC agents visited 1,488 retailers and found more than 92 percent to be in full compliance with the law. Agency officials say the operations are intended to remind alcohol retailers of their responsibility to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors.

  1. Our local P.D. and sheriffs department need to conduct a sting in the county every day. Minors should not be sold alcohol. And drinkers should not drive. Then why is it, Monday thru Saturday, the local beer joints on nearly every major street leaving the city are filled with patrons drinking beer? The majority drive themselves home or to the next joint after downing 2-4 beers. Do not preach to youngsters about drinking and driving until we adults have cleaned up our own act! Law enforcement please stop these patrons of ANY ethnicity from driving empaired.

    1. Cops would have their hands full if they were to patrol Hwy 36 (near FM 109) , Chappel Hill street and Market for all the drunk drivers. What gets me is how many adults are sitting in the beer joints in the middle of the day. . don’t they have jobs, families, children/grandchildren in sport that they could be attending heck even a household they need to tend to???…sad to see that the alcohol comes first. . such a waste of money…. I am with “Aware” ….until the adults have cleaned up their act don’t expect the kids to. . they only do what they see. .

    2. Why don’t you go on TABC website or smartphone app and file a complaint on businesses that serve minors or drunks.
