For the second year in a row, Tanner David is the champion of the Washington County Spelling Bee.  Twenty-four competitors representing eight Washington County Schools began last night’s Spelling Bee at the new Alton Elementary School.

Third place finisher Elizabeth Chisholm was eliminated in round 17 when she misspelled the word “salmonella”.  The final two contestants, Micah Andrejczak from Brenham Middle School and Tanner David from St. Paul’s Christian Day School battled it out till round 53 when Micah misspelled “sarsaparilla”.  Tanner was able to spell “sarsaparilla” but then missed the next word “Weimaraner”.  That meant the two would continue to battle it out until round 56 when Micah Andrejczak misspelled “mnemonic”.  Tanner David then gave it a try:

The top three finishers in this year’s bee received a cash prize from KWHI and will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee Saturday, February 7 at the College Station High School Auditorium.
