TEN NAVASOTA SCHOOL TEACHERS AWARDED GRANT MONEY

Ten Navasota school district teachers were awarded $22,322 in grants by the Navasota Education Foundation Tuesday morning, bringing the total received by the schools to more than $600,000.

The foundation was created in 2003, and in 2005 began giving out the grants, and this year, every teacher that applied received a grant.

The ten teachers are from four campuses that are working on five projects that have a direct impact on students.

The checks were handed directly to the teachers, with community leaders, school board members and school officials in attendance.

The teachers receiving the grants include Amy McLaughlin and Kevin Bradford from Navasota Intermediate School, Paula Downie and Katherine Hoke from Navasota High School, Katie Cook and Kenesha Waggoner from Navasota Junior High, LaShandralyn Harrison and Vanikin Sanders from Webb Elementary and Kristi Ramsey and Rhea Lester at Navasota High School and Junior High.

The money will be used by the individual teachers for items such as digital microscopes for science classrooms, iPads and a wireless router for a special education classroom, and funding of Project EXCEL, an afterschool program to enhance Math, science and Reading TEKS.
