TEXANS TO CONSIDER AMENDMENT NOVEMBER 4

.

Texans will be asked to vote yes or no on one statewide proposal on November 4th.

The amendment, if approved, would mean that the Texas Constitution would allow up to half of the revenue generated from oil and gas to be redirected into state transportation funds. Currently, they are kept in the state’s rainy day fund.

Legislator’s estimate that 1.7 billion dollars would be transferred during the first year if the measure passes, and the money can only be spent for building, maintaining and acquiring the rights of way for public roads, with the exception of toll roads.

Representative Joe Pickett, D-El Paso and Sen. Robert Nichols R-Jacksonville are co-sponsors of the bill. They say that this Proposition is the largest single increase to the State Highway Fund ever, and that the measure will provide much needed funding for roads without raising taxes.
