TEXANS UP AGAINST HEALTH INSURANCE DEADLINE

The eyes will certainly be on Texas today (Monday) to see how many of the state’s citizens will sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Texas is one of the state’s that opted not to expand its Medicaid system under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise called Obamacare.  That  makes acquiring health insurance critical for many.

Texas health care advocates, hospitals and assisters are giving a final, round-the clock push to get as many uninsured to buy plans through the federal marketplace on the last day of open enrollment.

Health care facilities and hospitals will open late into the night as they race toward the 11pm central time zone deadline through the plan.

In Texas, nearly one in four people lack insurance, the highest rate in the nation.  By March 1st, about 295,000, Texans enrolled.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had projected 629,000 Texans would be enrolled by the deadline.

The White House has given extra time to those that started the enrollment process by March 31st.
