TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE ADDRESSES BOBBITT’S BODY-CAM FOOTAGE

A recent opinion from the Texas Attorney General’s Office says the Brenham Police Department does not have to release the video from the officer body worn camera of a former police officer Richard Bobbitt.bobbittfeature

Bobbitt was the subject of an internal investigation which showed that he used excessive force during an arrest in July and was subsequently fired. In September the city reversed Bobbitt's termination and he was allowed to resign. The new opinion is in response to KBTX’s attempt to make public the officer body worn camera footage from that incident.

According to the station, Assistant Texas Attorney General Kavid Singh issued the five page opinion that says the city of Brenham must release some of the documents for the case, but others can be withheld due to an ongoing investigation. The Harris County District Attorney's Office is looking into the case to see if further action should be taken against the former police officer.

The attorney general’s office said the first request for the body camera footage needed to be more specific. According to KBTX, the station is filing a second request for the release of the video.

  1. why are they fighting so hard to not release the video. he’s already been released from his duties so what more harm can it do to release the video unless there’s more to it than they are willing to admit to
