“THE JOY OF MUSIC” ORGAN DEDICATION CONCERT

Blinn College’s Chamber and Concert Choirs will perform alongside the Brenham Children’s Chorus for a concert dedicating an organ recently donated to the College.

Titled “The Joy of Music,” the free concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Finke Recital Hall inside the Schmidt Building.joy-of-music-tv-fb

“The Joy of Music” dedicates the recently donated 1954 Manual and Pedal Pipe Organ built by Wicks Pipe Organ Company. The organ was donated by former Blinn College trustee Dr. Henry Boehm and current trustee Teddy Boehm.

The concert will include an organ music solo and a performance by the Brenham Children’s Chorus, and Blinn’s Chamber and Concert choirs will perform. To cap the event, all groups will combine their musical talents for a finale. The entire performance will last one hour and 15 minutes.

Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo,” or “Little Organ Mass,” was specially selected for the performance.

Choir Director, Dr. Paulo Gomes, says that having the organ on campus will now allow music students, faculty and community members to perform music that has organ accompaniment.

Gomes and Pam Bennett Young will both conduct “The Joy of Music” concert. Cheryl Amelang and Martha Haydon will accompany on the piano. Dr. Linda Patterson will play the new organ with Dr. Soo Yeon Kim will sing soprano.

The Blinn Concert Choir is open to all students, while the Chamber Choir accepts students based on their audition performance.
