THREE BHS STUDENTS ARRESTED AFTER TRASH CAN FIRE

Three juveniles face arson charges after an incident Friday at Brenham High School.

According to police, the three allegedly set fire to a trash can in the boys bathroom at the school following a pep rally Friday afternoon.

The fire was quickly extinguished and caused no damage.

The three boys ages 14, 15 and 16 were arrested and taken to juvenile court.

Two of the boys—who are brothers—were released to their parents custody, while the third was sent to a juvenile detention center.

  1. Some of these comments are just unbelievable. It’s All About parenting and you would have no doubt if you would be at the hearings with the Judges. I fault the judges a little for not giving the thugs more punishment. Everyone can sit in the comfort of there home and do better but you really don’t know what the teachers, law enforcement, principles are going through with these kids. It is truly unbelievable how their hands are tied and they for the most part do not get help from some of these parents. Quit picking on my little boy he would never do something like that even though they are watching him on cameras doing it. Everyone pull your heads out of the sand we have some real problems here and ignoring it will not help.

  2. Everyone blames the school, coaches, teachers, the school is falling apart, test scores falling, low morale, principals, etc. If this has been going on for five years, and the current board has only been in existence for 1-1/2 years, maybe these are things they considered when they accepted Mr. Bell’s resignation. Just asking………

  3. Looks like the school districts and parents are failing at raising our kids, time to turn it over to the criminal justice system, our County Court at Law and County attorney have a dog in this fight as well. Oh wait!, our criminal justice system has proven to be ineffective and broken as well! Until everybody stands up, takes accountability for their own failures, and takes corrective action, we all fail, and our kids end up in jail. Then we end up paying their way through life as they dip in and out of the Criminal Justice system. ACCOUNTABILITY FOLKS, ALL THE FINGER POINTING WILL GET YOU NO WHERE.

  4. I think parents need to be blamed for their childrens actions. Not the schools. I believe schools do the best they can with what they have. I raised 3 kids as a single mom and not 1 of them got in trouble but I made sure they had manners and respect for others. I knew other single parents who blamed others and the Government claiming they were single parents and that’s why their kids got in trouble. WHAT? It’s how you raise your kids. What happened to the Alternative Campus? Send these bad kids to a Boot Camp like punishment or like on TV send them to a adult prison for several days or even better bring back paddlings in school. A child learns from their parents and if the parents don’t care or in trouble with the police most of these kids don’t know any better. It’s the enviroment they were raised.

  5. Well here we go once again something else going wrong in BISD. Oh and reading the comments just gives you a bigger clue what’s wrong with this town. No one wants to take responsibility for anything. Our school district is falling apart. One person wants to blame the kids which I agree but there is nothing that can be done because you can not enforce discipline in your class. There is no punishment. They get away with everything. One wants to blame the parents. Most parents don’t care. The truth about the one that went to the detention center is probaby the parents didn’t want to come get them. We try to call home and the parents change phone numbers to avoid us. Students get free lunches but bring $50 bills for snack bar. Wake up Brenham this is not going away it’s getting worse. Stop building the school and start building prisons because our kids don’t stand a chance.

  6. We had less discipline problems at the high school when you had an officer up there that cared and interacted with the kids I don’t know the officer that’s up there now but my kids complain of her not doing anything and not interacting with the students like the past one that was there and i spoke to often this year when I have been up there I don’t even see the one they have now from what I’m told she sits in her office all day…..food for
    thought

  7. Long time teacher it probably depends on who you get your information from…check on how many coaches teach classes the entire day….what kind of classes they are…and how many students are in those classes. That would probably be a good starting point. I’m sure there are a few classes with too many but don’t think that is true overall. Also try calling BHS after 315 and see if anyone answers….check their attendance during the summer for administrators that should be there….there are lots of problems! Leadership is lacking there!

    1. Why don’t you check the schedules and see how many coaches teach all day , because almost all of them do. Oh that’s right they should be punished for doing such a horrible thing as coaching. Oh and they do get an athletic period to mentor and coach their athletes. I guess we should take that away too. I’ve got news for you. Without those horrible coaches doing that terrible thing you call coaching that place would be a nut house. Please comment on something that you have a clue about, because dragging other people through the mud is how we make things better.

  8. I was at the school when this happened, and the staff I was talking with made out like it was no big deal. “Oh they set a trash can on fire” the whole school smelt like smoke I think I was more concerned than staff. I don’t care who it was they need to be punished.

  9. Yes…..there you have it……BHS is a campus that Sam Bell was trying to clean up…..but the school board didn’t want to hear it……they are overstaffed so there should be plenty of staff to take care of this……..so where are all of the principals when all of this is taking place? Two articles in one day about BHS…..I would say the administration at BHS has major problems!

    1. Could you please elaborate? What was Sam Bell specifically doing to clean up BHS? Why have there been more discipline problems in the last few years than we had prior to 2009? Why have our test scores dropped in the last five years? You say BHS is overstaffed? There are classes with over 30 kids in them. We’ve had classes with more students than desks. What is the magic number you would like to see? 40 kids in one class? 50? When it was said that we needed to cut back on teachers, we switched from an 8 period schedule to a 7 period schedule. That means fewer opportunities for our students to take classes they would like to take or to participate in activities they would like to participate in. As for the principals…they were able to identify and take the 3 perpetrators into custody. Sounds like they were doing their job…or maybe you feel we should permanently station a principal in every stall of every bathroom at BHS.

      1. Awesome reply!!! It troubles me how many people sit in the comfort of their homes and they solve (so to speak) all of BISD’s problems by pointing fingers, and these same people have never taken the time to actually walk the halls of BHS to see first hand what goes on.

  10. These boys need to clean the school bathrooms for the next month after school for their punishment. I hate to said this but where is the respect for other’s property. These boys would not like someone doing something to their property.

  11. Two of the students were back at school today in the classroom. Ridiculous!!!! What kind of message is this sending to the kids??? It’s an embarrassment to our school system and our community. Lock them up.

  12. I have talked with teachers and bus drivers and they are basically saying it is a free for all! The kids can get away with almost anything and if they happen to be a minority the teachers or drivers have a hard time even writing them up because the school district doesn’t want it said they are picking on the minorities. I don’t care what race the student is start making them and their parents responsible.
Maybe when mom & dad have to start paying some fines, or for damages and missing work time then they will start “parenting”.

    1. Why does it always have to fall back on the parents. Start making the child responsible for their own actions and quit blaming the parents for not parenting right and making the parent pay for what the child does wrong. That is why these kids continue to do what they do because they have no consequences. It’s always the parent that pays the price. If the parent tries to discipline them the child calls Law Enforcement and the parent goes to jail.

      1. The suggestion that cops take parents to jail when they discipline their children is a falsehood. How many parents do you know that have gone to jail for properly disciplining a child? I’m not talking about abusing the child, I’m talking about disciplining them. I’ll bet the answer is none. I work in law enforcement and I’ve never, nor have I known any other officers, who’ve taken a parent to jail for disciplining a child. In fact, I’ve never been called by a child who has been disciplined by a parent. I’ve been called by plenty of parents who asked me to talk to unruly children, though. As much as we would all like the kids to behave and accept responsibility for their actions, the child still belongs to the parent. And the parent should’ve done some parenting in the child’s formative years, when the child’s character was being developed. So, yes, it is the kids’ fault that they caused the trouble, but the parents have failed their children by not instilling the character, values, and proper decision-making skills in the child. So ultimately the parents are to blame. And if we were to start holding the parents accountable for the actions of their juvinile children then we might see some parenting of these children. For some, there’s still hope.

        1. How would you know that the parents of these kids have not instilled proper values in their children. That’s what kids do, make decisions that are not right, do childish things, and sometimes even bad things. I’m not taking up for the children or the parents, but we should never assume that parents aren’t doing their job, because the child made a bad decision. Be careful with your words and your assumptions, because we all know what happens when you assume.

  13. So once again another story of juveniles in the headlines of the news!! So when is the law going to change to have harsher punishment for these “kids” and let it be open record on the names of these “kids”. . why is that we protect them by not releasing their names?? The story is obviously not because the witness something bad and need to be protected… And why was one sent to the juvenile detention center and the other two let go to their parents?? If it is because that parent(s) is teaching that “kid” a lesson if so then good for them for making him/her responsible for their actions. . . maybe all should of went and make them responsible for their part in the crime rather them getting to home and stay home from school (due to probably being suspended) . . At this point it is a reward for them because they can watch tv, stay up late/sleep in , eat when they feel like it, and guessing do what they want…..when they want!!

      1. Why not know their names? again why do we protect the criminals at any age?? maybe that is what is wrong with the younger group . . parents wipe up their mess and go about their business. . kids are not held responsible for their actions. . maybe if you had something stolen from you or child has or something damage your attitude would change.

        1. Actually, I didn’t have an attitude to change. In addition to that, these are children and as adults that’s what we do, we protect children, noy only that, you’re calling them criminals, hmmmm, just trying to figure

out who made you judge and jury there is a little something called due process, which
everyone is entitled to, yes, even

even kids. Although it’s apparent that you would like to rush to justice, assuming the worst, wanting to allow kids names to be exposed and again, for what? So they can be targeted and/or have a negative stigma attached to them before they’re adults? How classy is that? And by the way, just FYI, in my lifetime I have had things stolen from me, and my family’s personal belongings vandalized, but that’s where the justice system comes in to play. So maybe your attitude should change.
