THREE CUBS NAMED ALL-STATE

Three members of the 2014 Brenham Cubs football team have been recognized by the Associated Press 5A All-State Team.

Senior running back Ernest Patterson was named Second Team All-State, while senior quarterback Caleb Hill and senior wide receiver Jaquay Cross both received Honorable Mention.

Patterson rushed for 2,332 yards and 31 touchdowns this season.  He also caught 16 passes for 216 yards and two more scores.  And, he scored two more touchdowns on special teams.

Patterson’s rushing yards and touchdowns exceed the totals for all three First Team running backs.

Hill completed 128-of-218 passes this season (58.7 %) for 2,281 yards and 26 touchdowns.  He also ran for 286 yards and seven touchdowns.

Cross caught 49 passes in 2014 for a school-record 1,116 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The trio helped lead the Cubs to a 9-4 record and berth in the third-round of the Region III/5A playoffs.

Offensive Player of the Year was Travis Brennan, RB, Austin Vandergrift.

Defensive Player of the Year was Thomas Hutchings, LB, Cedar Park.

Also named All-State:

Honorable Mention Offense: Jared Spivey, OL, Bryan; Derrick Dick, WR, A&M Consolidated; Rakeem Boyd, RB, Stratford; KeeKee Johnson, RB, Bryan.

Honorable Mention Defense: Spencer Choka, LB, Bryan-Rudder; Coleman Johnson, LB, Bryan; Rajah Preciado, LB, College Station; Bryan Ward, DB, Bryan.
