TIM LAPHAM ELECTED AUSTIN COUNTY JUDGE

The next Austin County judge has been elected and, as Ed Pothul reports, the margin was razor thin.

It took all night Tuesday, and a recount most of the day Wednesday before Tim Lapham was declared the winner of the Austin County judges race.

Lapham’s margin of victory over opponent John Graham was only eight votes.  After a recount ending in the mid-afternoon Wednesday, Lapham had 1365 votes to Graham’s 1357 votes.

Lapham and Graham were the top two vote getters in the March 4th Republican primary in Austin County.  That day was marked with a rate but severe winter storm.  Much of Bellville was without power in the morning hours and two polling sites opened late. That led to a delay in the vote count.

There is no Democrat on the ballot so Lapham will take office in January.

Lapham will be the first new county judge in Austin County in twenty years.  Judge Carolyn Bilski is stepping down after this term.
