In the late evening hours on Tuesday, severe weather and what police are calling a tornado touched down in the Sealy area along the I-10 corridor. The interstate was closed from the 719 mile marker going in both directions due to damage as an emergency command center was activated.

Reports of the damage include overturned 18-wheelers, homes missing roofs, and power poles getting toppled. Some areas are still without power as linemen from around the area work to restore service.

The Sealy Police have asked via their Facebook page for residents to stay away from the areas damaged if they do not have a reason to be out. Their post continues that "heavy traffic slows the progress of restoring normalcy and creates unsafe conditions for work crews and first responders working in the areas."

Sealy ISD has cancelled school at all campuses on Wednesday due to damage and the conditions, and has exempt all of the high school students scheduled to take finals from remaining exams. School was already on holiday from Thursday and Friday.
