SEALY MAN AMONG TOURIST KILLED IN MISSISSIPPI BUS/TRAIN ACCIDENT

A Sealy man is among four tourists who were killed when a tour bus from Bastrop was struck by a train in Biloxi, Mississippi, Tuesday.

79-year old Clint Havran was one of the tourists on a Gulf Coast casino trip when the bus became stuck on the railroad tracks and broadsided by a freight train.

Forty others were injured in the crash—seven critically.

Witnesses say the bus became stuck on a steep embankment that has a sign warning drivers of low ground clearance.

Authorities say the Echo Transportation bus was carrying passengers from the Austin area to one of Biloxi’s casinos.  The weeklong trip was organized by a senior citizen’s center in Bastrop.

Witnesses say that the bus was stuck on the tracks for about five minutes before the train hit.  Some people were reportedly getting off the bus, as the driver tried to move it.

Federal Railroad Agency records show that there have been 16 accidents at the crossing since 1976, including fatalities in 1983 and 2003.

The National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Railroad Administration and the State of Mississippi all have investigators at the scene.

  1. There were several people from Sealy on this bus as well…one who reportedly died and several injured and hospitalized. A very tragic event for all involved. Details are limited.
