TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DISCOVERY OF COCAINE IN FAYETTE CO.

A traffic stop in Fayette County led to the discovery of 40 pounds of cocaine hidden in vehicle.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Tuesday morning at 11:30, Drug Interdiction Officer David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Ford Expedition on State Highway 71.  After interviewing the driver, who was extremely nervous, Smith observed several criminal indicators and a suspicious travel itinerary.  Consent to search the vehicle was given and during the search, a false compartment was found.  Inside the compartment were 15 bundles of cocaine weighing a total of 40 pounds.  The estimated street value of the cocaine is $525,000.  Arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance was Leobardo Mejia of Austin.  He was transported to the Fayette County Jail.
