TRIO OF PANTHERS NAMED 1ST TEAM ALL-STATE

Three members of the 2014 Burton Panther football team have been named First-tTeam All-State by the Associated Press.

All three were named to the First-Team Defense: senior end, Louis Brown; senior linebacker, Brandon Salinas; and, senior defensive back, Luke Huffer.

Brown had 169 tackles, 11.5 sacks and intercepted two passes.  Brown was also named Honorable Mention running back on offense.

Salinas led the team with 185 tackles, with seven sacks, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown.

Huffer recorded 103 tackes, while intercepting four passes and returning seven punt returns for touchdowns.

The Panthers finished the 2014 season 8-4, with a 5-1 District record.

Also named A.P. All-State were Snook linebacker Harlan Plumber to the First-Team and Somerville punter Danny Reyes to the Second Team.

2A Offensive Player of the Year was: Booker QB, Hunter Lile, who threw for 3,529 yards and 38 TD’s, and rushed for 764 yards and 12 TD’s.

2A Defensive Player of the Year was: Canadian linebacker, Andrew Ezzell, who 163 tackles (23 solo), 26 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
