TRUE BLUE ANIMAL RESCUE SAVES THREE BABY HORSES FROM BEING SLAUGHTERED

The True Blue Animal Rescue of Washington County has rescued three baby horses that were on their way to exported and sold into Mexico for slaughter.

Three horse would have ended up in Mexico. Other horse could possibly end up in other countries, to be sold as food on the European markets.

The horses were rescued from a feedlot in the Stillwater, Oklahoma area after coming from a Navajo Reservation.

The American Veterinary Medical Association estimates that as many as 140,000 horse are slaughtered every year, which is one or two percent of the population.

Animal Groups like the Humane Society want to ban the practice, but some agricultural groups are still in support of it, saying that slaughter is a better option that the horse suffering from neglect, malnourishment or abandonment.

There are no longer slaughter houses in the U.S., but exporting of the horses still occurs.

There is legislation in the U.S. House, known as the S.A.F.E Act that would put an end to the practice. It was introduced in Washington last month, but hasn’t been discussed in committee or voted on by the House of Senate.
