TRUTH BARBECUE TO OPEN HOUSTON LOCATION

Brenham’s Truth Barbecue has signed a deal to open a second location in Houston. According to the Houston Chronicle, Truth Barbecue owner and pitmaster Leonard Botello IV has agreed to partner with Houston restaurateur Johnny Carrabba. Carrabba operates several eateries in Houston including two of his namesake Italian restaurants. The Truth Barbecue operation in Brenham, although only 2 years old, was ranked in the top 10 barbecue locations in the state by Texas Monthly Magazine.

Truth Bar-B-Q owner Botello operated his family’s restaurant in Lake Jackson before opening his barbecue restaurant in Brenham. Truth Barbecue is only open Thursdays through Sunday and the line of customers often stretches out to the road at their location just west of Brenham. No site has yet been named for the Houston restaurant, other than it will be inside the 610 loop.

  1. Folks will be arguing about what BBQ is best until the end of time. The bottom line is the best is what YOU like, I’ve eaten BBQ all over Texas and most of the U.S., including world famous places. The only for sure statement I will make is this, if you ask and a person goes on and on about the sides and never mentions the meat, keep moving.

  2. BBQ from the Jasinski’s (previous owners) was MUCH better than the truth.
Houston sheeple will fill up the new location until the next trendy food fad.

    1. Have you ever eaten at Truth? Can you describe what makes BBQ good? We are now in the golden age of BBQ and Truth is rated highly for a reason. Did the previous owners have lines out to the road? Truth started having long lines before they made Texas Monthly.

      1. The previous owners also had lines out the drive way. They also had a drive-thu window and had 3-4 employees fixing the plates!!

      2. I agree. Truth’s is the best BBQ I have had. I liked J’s but hands down Truth’s is better.

      3. I have to say that I disagree…..had J’s Barbq advertised as much as Truth does, they would have had lines just like Truth. I will probably never eat at Truth just because of the lines…..J’s was great barbq and I did have to sit in a long drive thru line more than once, but then it was just local people eating.

        1. Nathan’s has spent much more on advertising for years and years and they don’t have the long lines that Truth does. Truth has a truly exceptional product and word of mouth is what is driving their business. They use prime beef. They cook it slowly and do things right. They observed what the best were doing to produce exceptional BBQ and they don’t take any shortcuts. I will also say that LJ’s is doing a great job with their BBQ. They take pride in what they do and they run a close 2nd to Truth in town. No one else comes even close.

        2. Summary:

Truth BBQ isn’t as good as J’s BBQ.

          Reasons:
-There is a long line at Truth’s.
          -J’s had a drive-thru window
-More employees to make plates at J’s
          -Houston Sheeple
          -Haven’t actually tried Truth BBQ

For the record, J’s and Truth were/are both a-ok in my book.

      4. Yes I did. On multiple occasions.
Yes I can describe what I like in BBQ. I only eat the brisket. #1 it must not be greasy. #2 it should be firm and not mushy . #3 it should have a good smoke flavor (I personally prefer pecan over post oak).
Golden age, right. If anything the quality of BBQ brisket has regressed as it became a competitive event.
Texas Monthly also highly ranked Cooper’s the in Llano for years. The steaks and chicken were OK but it is a GRILL not a BBQ. I put zero faith in what Texas Monthly finds to be tasty.
I do agree that the sides and the cake at the truth are very good but I will pass on the brisket.

      5. Yes as a matter of fact The Jasinski’s did have cars lined out to the road and people waiting in line for their food! Obviously you never went there and missed out on some darn good food.
