TWELVE YEAR SENTENCE FOR ASSAULTING WIFE WITH A KNIFE

A 30-year old Brenham man was sentenced to 12 years in prison in this week’s session of the 21st district court, for threatening his former wife with a knife in May.

Assistant District Attorney Eric Berg said that Andre Osagi hid in the woman’s closet in her apartment waiting for her.  Once she was home he held the knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.

Judge Carson Campbell also ordered Osagi to pay a thousand dollar fine and court costs for the second degree felony.

Twenty-three year old Anthony J. Harry Gonzales pulled an elderly man from his car after a minor traffic collision in March of 2012, and assaulted him.  Gonzales was ordered to the Shock Probation program for that assault.  Berg said Gonzales successfully completed the program, and Judge Campbell determined he had learned his lesson.  He sentenced Gonzales to ten years probation, ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service, undergo alcohol and drug treatment, take anger management classes, and have no contact with the victim.

Berg said 19-year old Edward Andrew Aleman of Houston simply decided a boat parked near Lake Somerville in May was his and tried to sell it.  The boat was not his and he was arrested for theft.  Judge Campbell sentenced Aleman to two years deferred adjudication, a thousand dollar fine, court costs and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service.

Fifty-two year old Stephen Dan Hubert got into a shoving match with his wife in November of last year and the conflict escalated enough for him to be charged with a Class A misdemeanor for assault family violence.  Judge Campbell sentenced him to two years probation and ordered him to pay a $1500 fine.  He also ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service,.

Berg said 32-year old Carly Elizabeth Sigala made a quick meal on ‘a lot of marijuana’ during a traffic stop in February.  Berg said if she had simply been found in possession of marijuana she would have only faced a misdemeanor charge.  Sigala pled guilty to tampering with evidence with the intent to impair an investigation.  Judge Campbell sentenced her to two years deferred adjudication probation, ordered her to pay a $750 fine,. and ordered her to perform 100 hours of community service.

Also in this week’s court session, 42-year old Chad Michael Paris of Brenham pled guilty to stealing a Shell credit car and using several times.  Berg said he violated the probation agreement and was sentenced to a year in a state jail facility.  He must also pay a thousand dollar fine.
