TWENTY-THREE CUBS RECEIVE ALL-DISTRICT HONORS; PATTERSON TAKES SECOND MVP

For the second straight season, Ernest Patterson has been named the District Football Player of the Year.

The Brenham Cubs senior running back rushed for 2,332 yards this past season, second only to Patterson’s 2013 season when he rushed for 2439 yards.  He also scored a total of 35 touchdowns which breaks Roosevelts Leaks’ old record of 32 touchdowns in 1969.

Patterson also ranks first amongst Cubs in career rushing (5,076 yds.) and career touchdowns (67).

Patterson shares the 19/5A MVP honor with Stratford running back Rakeem Boyd.

The Cubs’ Walter Thomas was named All-Purpose Player of the Year, as a wide receiver and defensive back.  Thomas caught 26 passes for 361 yards and had two interceptions on defense.

Quarterback Caleb Hill was named First-Team Offense, throwing for 2,281 yards and 26 touchdowns, while running for 286 yards and seven touchdowns.

Jaquay Cross finished his record-breaking season at wide receiver with selection to the First-Team Offense as well.  Cross has a school-record 1,116 yards receiving and tied the school record with 18 touchdowns catches.

Also selected to the First Team Offense were: Trumaine Sweed, junior, fullback (207 yds. rushing, 229 yds. receiving); Shawn Weiss, senior, tight end (14 rec. 213 yds. 4 TD’s); Dalton Nutt, senior, tackle; Angel Otero, senior, center; Tien Pham, sophomore, kicker (65-68 pat’s, 9-10 field goals); George Newman, junior, deep-snapper.

Second Team Offense honors:  Walter Thomas, senior, wide receiver; Kaleb Teverbaugh, senior, guard.

First Team Defense selections were; Khevon Shepard, junior, tackle; Cole Kenjura, senior, middle linebacker; Walter Thomas, senior, defensive back; Jonathan Homan, junior, defensive back; Deon Earls, junior, defensive back.

Selected to the Second Team Defense were: Al’Fondrick Bennett, senior, tackle; Ja’Malik Rogers, senior, defensive end; Tyrell Rogers, junior, defensive end; Marquez Bimage, sophomore, defensive end; Dillon Thielemann, junior, linebacker; Trumaine Sweed, junior linebacker.

The Cubs finished the season 9-4, with a 19/5a mark of 6-1.

Brenham advanced to the third round of the playoffs for the sixth time in the last nine seasons.

Also receiving 19/5A honors are:

Offensive MVP: Tyron Taylor, SR, QB, Waller
Defensive MVP: Spencer Nigh, JR, LB, Magnolia
Coach of the Year: Elliot Allen, Stratford

    So proud of Jaquay. .sure wish he was able to break record, but will always be #1 in our hearts. As we say, ” Don’t CROSS the CUBS”
